“Live
at the Orinda” Champagne Comedy Event to Launch March 5th
Five Acclaimed Comedians to Deliver Salvos of Side-Splitting Laughs |
|
San Francisco’s
East Bay area lovers of laughter will have the opportunity to join a
champagne-filled night of comedy at the landmark Orinda Theatre on
Friday, March 5th. The Orinda Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with
Tommy T’s Comedy Clubs and The Lamorinda Film &
Entertainment Foundation today announced
plans for the first “Live at the Orinda” event.
The evening of fun will start with a gala champagne reception at 7:00
p.m., followed by laugh-packed performances from five comedians starting
at 8:00 p.m. A brief intermission will be provided for attendees to
regain composure and refill their refreshments. Featured comedians will
be Ed Tracey, Larry “Bubbles” Brown, Dan St. Paul, Mark Pitta, and
Johnny Steele – all highly-acclaimed masters of comedy.
“We want this
fundraiser to be uniquely different,” said Rick Kattenburg, the
Chamber Director in Charge of this event and its originator. “A lot of
work has gone into the planning to make this a lot of fun. Tommy of
“Tommy T’s Comedy Clubs” has been indispensible in helping gather a
great slate of comics. The Champagne and white wine we’ll serve are
carefully chosen selections. The seating is open since everyone will
have a great view because of a live video feed projected onto the big
screen above the comics during the performances. The Theatre should be a
fantastic venue - made available to us through the Lamorinda Film and
Entertainment Foundation, which has also provided the theatre for
“Orinda Idol” and The California Independent Film Festival.”
“Live at the
Orinda offers fun-loving people of our East Bay communities the
opportunity to share an evening of relaxing laughter while discovering
all the charms of Orinda,” said Sue Breedlove, Orinda Chamber
President. “We expect this will become an annual event.”
Advanced discounted performance tickets at
$25.00 may be reserved in advance until March 4th
using a credit card at the Orinda Chamber of Commerce web site –
www.OrindaChamber.org, or at First Republic
Bank, 224 Brookwood Road and at The Framemaker, 19 Orinda Way in Orinda,
CA.
Tickets at the door (if available) will be $30.00 per person.
Champagne and other refreshments will be available for separate
purchase. A portion of any profits from the event will benefit local
non-profit organizations. Advanced reservations will be limited to 700
ticket holders, so attendees are encouraged to reserve early.
The Chamber’s goal is to delight more than 700 participants – aged 17
and older - as they enjoy the classic surroundings of an Art Deco
Masterpiece Theatre and an evening of friendship rediscovering the magic
of laughter. |

ABOUT THE COMEDIANS |
|
Ed Tracey:
A local
funny man and vocalist. Ed has opened for Sinbad, Bobcat Goldthwait,
DL Hughley and other nationally recognized comedians, as well as
headlined himself around the US. He has also appeared on the Tonight
Show with Jay Leno and is host of the upcoming TV show, "LOL! with Ed
Tracey" |
|
Larry “Bubbles” Brown:
Now a San Francisco based comedian, growing up in Ohio, he moved to
California in his early 20's, seeking high rents and traffic.
After a series of Kafkaesque payroll jobs
for the Federal government, he tried stand up at the Holy City Zoo in
SF in l98l. In a few months he was riding the comedy boom of the 80's.
That crashed in the 90's because as he points out - "Anything in life
you like will be taken away from you." Brown stayed at it because you
can't beat working half an hour a night. He
spent two years working as a traffic reporter on Live 105 morning show
with Alex Bennett. He has appeared on
over 25 TV shows, including David Letterman and will be making another
appearance this year. He was also in the movie "The Kiterunner." He
appears in clubs mainly in California and Las Vegas because flying
terrifies him even though he was a certified glider pilot before stand
up. He has been a frequent opening act
for Dana Carvey and Dave Attell. His philosophy of life is "Expect the
worst and you will never be disappointed." |
|
Dan St. Paul:
After seven years headlining San Francisco clubs in the comedy duo
Murphy-St.Paul, Dan launched out on his own with a solo act that was
to land him in the finals of the nation's toughest competition, The
San Francisco International Stand-Up Comedy Competition. Soon after,
Dan moved to Los Angeles and appeared on several episodes of "An
Evening at the Improv", plus numerous shows on VH-1, MTV, and Comedy
Central. Since then, he has opened for such superstars as Jerry
Seinfeld, Natalie Cole, Dwight Yoakum, Smokey Robinson, and Vince
Gill. In a testament to the class of his act, Dan even opened for the
San Francisco Symphony. He appeared in the movie "Flubber" with Robin
Williams, and signed a recording deal with MCA records. His CD,
"Natural and Good for You" contains one of the most requested comedy
pieces on radio, "The First Baseball Game". He also is the star of his
own one-man play, "Outer Mission, Middle Class - The Comic Diary of an
Immigrant's Son". The Los Angeles Theater and Entertainment Review
said about Dan, "Combining a sharp, clean wit with an outstanding
talent for creating characters, Dan's show appeals to audiences of all
ages ... what sets Dan apart is that he doesn't just tell jokes, but
rather creates a series of comedic events." Armed with a Bachelors
Degree in Italian from UC Berkeley, a teaching credential from San
Francisco State, and a Masters Degree in special education, the
majority of Dan's material comes from being a suburban husband and
father and dealing with the frustrations of everyday life.

Mark Pitta:
Mark Pitta is a national headliner coming from the fervent San
Francisco comedy scene of the 1980's. “It was the best time to want to
be a comedian,” says Mark. “The clubs created a cooperative nurturing
environment almost like a baseball farm system. It got us all ready
for Los Angeles when it was time to jump into that scene.” Mark's
career flourished in LA, first, fulfilling his dream of appearing on
The
Tonight Show with Johnny Carson then subsequent
appearances with Jay Leno. Mark landed a job as host of
Totally Hidden
Video for the FOX network, playing different
characters in hidden camera situations and then hosting
Friday Night
Videos for NBC. Mark has made guest appearances on
Mad
About You and
Third Rock
From the Sun.
For Comedy Central Mark has appeared on
Premium Blend;
The A-List; Dr.
Katz; and
Make Me Laugh.
Mark was also the roving entertainment reporter/host for the top rated
morning show in the San Francisco Bay Area. For five years Mark
brought his unique comic expertise to the man on street format and
enjoyed the original approach to interviewing newsmakers, movie stars
and everyday folk. A favorite on the comedy club; college; and
corporate circuit, Mark has also opened for Chris Issak, Celene Dion,
Vanessa Williams, Paul Anka, Kenny Rogers, Olivia Newton John, Smokey
Robinson, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and Rick Springfield. The prestigious
ELAN
AWARDS has chosen Mark as Master of Ceremonies five
times, and Anthony Robbins has employed Mark to liven up his financial
seminars. When not working for money, Mark lends his time to his
favorite charity,
The Tony La
Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation. |

Johnny Steele:
Johnny began performing comedy in 1984. He was soon performing at the
nation's top clubs. Johnny went on to perform at comedy festivals, win
comedy competitions, and log over 20 national TV appearances. In 1997
Johnny hosted San Francisco's Live 105 Morning Radio Show. The
Chronicle dubbed it the 'best morning chatter show' and also 'clean
and smart.’ In 1999 he became co-host of KRON/Bay TV's THE SHOW. For
three years Johnny's informal interview style and outrageous ad-lib
comments kept everyone laughing. Johnny is currently performing comedy
as well as working on a number of web, radio, and TV projects. |
